Diablo Canyon Power Plant - Ocean/Surf Report for 2/6/2012
SWELL:
Arriving from the Northwest:
This morning's 5- to 7-foot northwesterly (290-degree
deep-water) swell (with a 13- to 15-second period) will
decrease to 3 to 5 feet (with an 11- to 13-second period)
this afternoon.
Strong to gale-force (25 to 38 mph) southeasterly winds
tonight into Tuesday morning will generate 7- to 9-foot
southerly (190-degree shallow-water) seas (with 4- to
6-second period) late Monday night through Tuesday
morning.
A 7- to 9-foot westerly (270-degree deep-water) swell
(with an 11- to 20-second period) will follow Tuesday
afternoon and night.
An 11- to 13-foot west-northwesterly (285-degree deep-water)
swell (with an 11- to 18-second period) will develop along
the Pecho Coast on Wednesday. This west-northwesterly
(285-degree deep-water) swell will decrease to 8- to
10-feet (with an 11- to 17-second period) on Thursday.
A 6- to 8-foot northwesterly (310-degree deep-water) sea
and swell (with 5- to 14-second period) will develop along
the Central Coast on Friday through Saturday.
Preliminary extended surf analysis:
A series of storms in the North Pacific will continue to
produce a series of medium to higher-energy swell events
through February.
SEAWATER TEMPERATURE:
Intake seawater temperatures will range between 54- and 56
-degrees through Friday.
SEAWATER VISIBILITY:
Seawater visibility was 20- to 22-feet at the Diablo Canyon Intake.
OUTLOOK for WINDS:
DIR. SE SPEED 30-35 + 45 Tuesday morning
Decreasing to: DIR. SW SPEED 15-20 Tuesday afternoon
Decreasing to: DIR. SW SPEED 5-10 Tuesday night
EXTENDED OCEAN CONDITION OUTLOOK:
A change to wetter and cooler conditions across the Central
Coast is anticipated late in February, and these conditions
should persist into early April.
